About LinkSave

Last updated:

LinkSave is a free, independent web tool for saving online videos as MP4 files that actually play — on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and smart TVs. It is built and run by an independent developer, not by a company, and is not affiliated with Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, YouTube or any other platform.

Why LinkSave exists

Many video downloaders hand you a file that shows a black screen with sound, or won’t open on an iPhone at all. That happens because platforms increasingly serve video in newer formats such as VP9 and AV1, which QuickTime, iOS and many phones and TVs can’t decode. LinkSave was built to fix exactly that: every file it delivers is an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, the most widely supported combination there is.

How it works

  1. You paste a link. Our server uses the open-source tool yt-dlp to read which qualities the platform offers.
  2. You pick a quality and, if you like, a file name.
  3. The server fetches that version from the platform. If it isn’t already H.264/AAC, it is converted with ffmpeg so it plays everywhere.
  4. The MP4 is sent to your device, and the temporary copy on our server is deleted immediately.

To keep the free service fast for everyone, each video can be up to 1 hour long and 500 MB in size. Private, login-only and DRM-protected videos are not supported.
